description

Brigandine is kept in The Bavarian National Museum (Munich, Germany) and is dated 1360-1440 year. Despite of the fact that this model is made in classical Milanese style, brigandine was named after the place of its location. Such armour is typical protective gear of the knights of the XIII-XIV centuries. In the end of the XV century, generally archers and infantrymen were using this type of body armour.

Custom medieval plates’ armor is made-to-measure item. That means that our artisans use individual body parameters and personal regards of client to handcraft such body protection.

You can use this brigandine armor for:

  • SCA
  • HEMA
  • Larp
  • Stage performances
  • Medieval festivals
  • Reenactment events

Made-to-measure brigandine is completely handcrafted. Making of this beautiful medieval armor takes 120 working hours (about three weeks), as every part is made by hands of our artisans.

Main distinction of Munich brigandine is large solid breastplate, which is connected to six narrow horizontal plates from the bottom. These plates form plate skirt. Thigh plates are covered with smooth rows of rivets and do not hinder movements. Breastplate is attached to the base fabric with two arc-like rows of rivets with etched pattern or monogram.

You may see steel inner part of the Munich corazzine in photos (there is smaller version at a scale of 1 in 10).

Back part of armour is not a single piece. Brigandine has leather belts with buckles on the back (less frequently – on the sides). Showpiece from Munich museum has thick velvet as outer fabric. Besides, similar armour could be covered with broadcloth, thick canvas, wool or crafted leather.

Due to slim fit of brigandine, its weight was disposed equally on the shoulders and pelvis joints. Together with movable connection of the thigh plates, this fact makes wearing of armour comfortable and provides with reliable protection of major organs. Another benefit of Munich brigandine is very easy putting on.

Base price includes following options:

  1. Wine red wool for outer shell;
  2. Plates of cold-rolled steel 1.0 mm;
  3. Steel finding rivets;
  4. Black leather straps;
  5. Steel nickel-plated buckles;
  6. Straight bottom edge;
  7. XS-size;
  8. No decoration

Depending on the wealth and social class, knight were wearing brigandines of different materials. Common infantrymen and poor warriors could afford brigand armor covered with wool. Wealthy and noble knights were wearing velvet, suede or leather brigandines with beautiful festoons and attires.

Various fastenings and types of decoration are available for order. We can make an embroidery of your heraldic emblem on the brigandine, or decorate the bottom edge with fancy festoons. Brigandine or whole-hammered spaulders provide with additional protection.

If you choose half-coloured or quarter-coloured brigandine, please inform us via [email protected] , what colours you prefer and its exact disposition.

I would definitely recommend it. It was my first time buying armor online, easy to order and fast delivery, good packaging. I collected my order at Orange medieval market, so shipping was for free. I met there my manager, with whom I was doing the order and the owner of the store. They are very nice and reliable guys.
