description

This unique medieval body armor is created for everyone, who wants to be art and part in being of the first, who was called “knights”. Mounted fighters, privileged class of those, who does not harvest and plow, but whose duty is to fight, and whose clothing is an armor.

Steel Mastery represents you reconstruction of “broigne” of one of the knights of Colletière, dated by the 1040-1080 years. We made it with love and do hope, you will like it too ;)

Custom medieval plates’ armor is made-to-measure item. That means that our artisans use individual body parameters and personal regards of client to handcraft such body protection.

Our body armor is based on the fragment of plate, which was found in the settlement Colletière and now is kept in the Musee Archeologique du Lac Paradru (France).

Museum description tells us: “Few iron plates, often quite thin, probably round or polyanguar one (size from 4.4. to 7.4 cm), with hard central rivet, which keeps small counter-plate, they probably refer to broigne. In any case, two plates conform to the segment of thick leather (from 0.5 to 0.6 cm)” (Colletiere de Charavines p. 216 from Musee Archeologique du Lac Paradru).

At the last picture you can see, how French archaeologists believe that such armor had look.

So, our hero is wearing one of the most effective body protection of the XI century - a brigandine.

Base is a woolen vest with cotton lining. Vest consists of the front and back parts, which are held together with firm leather belts on the shoulders and on the sides. If you will choose leather as main fabric, we can also trimmed it with thin leather cord. That is not only join leather and lining together, but also looks quite classy as for such a simple armour.

Belts are fixed with rivets and thread. Cast buckles provide with reliable fastening.

Every protecting plate is riveted to the base fabric with one rivet and small counter-plate from the inside.

In such a way, we get a simple body armor that has good protective quality at the same time. Any of knights of Colletière wouldn’t be shy to make a public appearance in such brigandine!
