description

Sleeveless gambeson was very popular model of padded armour in XII-XIII centuries and was used mostly by archers or soldiers, who didn't take a participation in combats.

This gambison is necessary part of medieval soldier's costume, despite of poor safety.

You give us your specific measures and wishes - we make you a completely custom gambeson that will bring you joy and comfort for a long time!

Made-to-measure gambeson armour may be sewn by two ways:

  • machine manufacturing. Tailors will make padded armor by your parameters, using sewing machine.
  • hand sewing. Custom gambeson will be completely sewn by hands of our tailors. Such type of manufacture is historical one and is offered for additional costs.

You can use this light gambeson for:

  • SCA
  • HEMA
  • Larp
  • Stage performances
  • Medieval festivals
  • Reenactment events

Base price includes following options:

  1. 1-2 layers of padding (natural sheet wadding 50% cotton, 50% wool);
  2. Natural (uncoloured) cotton for outer and inner shell;
  3. XS-size;
  4. Black leather straps;
  5. Straight bottom edge;

Quantity of padding layer depends on the main armour. If you plan to wear quilted gambeson of leather under the chainmail, so 5-6 layers will be required. If there will be plate armour or brigandine, so 2-3 layers of natural wadding is enough.

Linen or cotton medieval gambesons were more typical for foot soldiers and archers. We also offer wool, leather or velvet for your quilted gambeson.

There is leather strap on the collar for fastening.

Padded gambesons of red, blue and green colors were more popular, but there are also bright yellow or royal-blue colours are available for order.

Almost every model of gambison by Steel Mastery may be transformed into sleeveless gambeson, if you will choose option “Laced sleeves”. That option allows detaching of sleeves from body part.

If you choose half-coloured or quarter-coloured gambeson, please inform us by [email protected], what colours you prefer and its exact disposition.
