description

A practical padded garment designed for comfort and protection. The aketon is made with simple quilting and filled with mixed or cotton batting, providing reliable padding for wear under armor or during training.

Short Description

  • Material: 100% linen fabric with natural linen lining
  • Color: Natural (uncolored)
  • Layers: Up to 5
  • Size: Custom sizing available
  • Fastenings: No external fastenings

Historical Note

Inspired by 13th-century European military garments, the aketon was widely worn beneath mail armor as padded protection against impact and friction. It could also be used as standalone defensive wear by infantry and men-at-arms. This piece follows the silhouette seen in medieval iconography and manuscript depictions of the High Middle Ages, offering a historically grounded look suitable for reenactment without aiming at museum-grade reconstruction.

Style & Use

  • Ideal for training, sparring, and HEMA practice
  • Provides protective padding under mail or plate armor
  • Comfortable for reenactment training sessions
  • Designed for both beginners and advanced practitioners
  • Suitable as a standalone padded defense garment or as an underlayer beneath armor
