Medieval badge "Land of Fools" 1 in stock

description

Badge depicts a fool trying to catch the wind.
The satirical plot displays notions of a carnivalesque "upside-down world," where everything happens in reverse. Either the characters from the "upside down world" literally follow folk proverbs and sayings (looking for wind in the field, carrying water with a sieve, grabbing God by the beard, etc.). The story of the "Land of Fools" is one of the most popular in the Middle Ages.
Netherlands, 1377-1450. Based on the book "Sieraad en devotie in middeleews vlaandreen" by Jos Kolderweij.
Brass. Size 40x40 mm.
