Long Knight gambeson of the XI-XV centuries was worn preferably by mounted knight.
Though, infantrymen and foot soldiers were using such model as well. Completed with brigand or metal armor, such gambison provided with perfect protection even in close fight.

Base price includes following options:
- 1-2 layers of padding (natural sheet wadding 50% cotton, 50% wool);
- Natural (uncoloured) cotton for outer and inner shell;
- XS-size;
- Straight bottom edge;
- Black leather straps for fastening.
Main photo shows long gambeson with following options:
- 2 layer of padding;
- uncoloured (natural/unbleached) linen for outer and inner shells;
- L-size;
- brown leather belts with cast brass buckles;
- straight bottom edge.
Outer material of gambeson armor always showed social status and financial health of owner. So, poor soldiers were wearing linen or cotton gambeson. Rich and noble knight could afford silk, wool or leather gambeson. Various types of fastening were used as well: leather belts with cast buckles, metal buttons, straps with steel or brass points. Bottom edge could be decorated with festoons.
Depending on the main armor that you plan to use over quilted gambeson, we offer different quantity of layers of padding. If you’ll wear gambeson coat under the chainmail, so 5-6 layers will be required. If there will be full-plate armor or brigandine, so 2-3 layers of wadding is enough.
By choosing option “Laced sleeves”, you may make your gambeson armour sleeveless. Or, you just may simply order sleeveless or short-sleeved gambeson in our store: early medieval gambeson, sleeveless gambeson of the XII-XIII centuries.
If you plan to wear steel spaulders or plate arms over this padded gambeson, please add leather fastenings for steel arms.
Black, blue, uncoloured (natural) or green gambesons were the most popular that time. If you choose half-coloured or quarter-coloured padded gambeson, please inform us at [email protected], what colours you prefer and its exact disposition.
There are two layers of padding in sleeves by default. If you want to change it, please contact us.
