Such model of early open helmet was named in honor of Nikolskoye village (Oryol region, Russia), where it was found in the 1866 year and is dated by the late XII-XIII centuries. Type IV in helmets' classification of A. Kirpichnikov. Helmet was widespread among steppe nomads and principalities of Rus.

Original helmet had a flush riveted cupola of three parts. Lengthwise flutes increase hardness of helmet.

Mask with eyeholes and hump-shaped nasal plate is riveted to the cupola. Such nasal guard protected nose and central part of the face. Edges of mask have small holes for attaching of mail aventail. If you are going to use this early medieval head protection, we strictly recommend to wear it together with mail aventail for protection of lower part of face, throat and neck.

Such helmets were a head protection of noble men and feudal lords, decorated with silver, gold, ornaments and images of saints.
