The jupon (or surcoat) of the Black Prince (Edward of Woodstock, 1330-1376)
Originally the jupon is made of thick linen that is padded with wool with a quarter-colored design.
It is decorated with appliquéd fleurs-de-lis embroidered in golden thread (the symbol of France) on the blue panels and appliquéd heraldic lions, also in golden thread (the symbol of England), on the red panels.
The jupon appears to have been half-sleeved; the efficy of the Black Prince shows him wearing a sleeveless garment.

Our stylization of Black Prince`s surcoat has also a quarter-colored design.
It is made with cotton and has wool padding.
Gold lions and lilies placed on a red and blue background embellish the surcoat.
A beautiful addition is the 4 gold buttons on the sides and decorative white stripes with lilies and ermine on the top.
