LEATHER GAMBESON JACKET

Medieval British gentlemen prefer leather gambeson. And these preferences dictated not only by aesthetic pleasure, which gives the appearance of good, well-carved leather. Leather for a medieval garment, and especially so important men’s garment as a gambison, is a guarantee of durability, reliability, and strength.

If you are not going to wear a gambeson armor for beauty alone and wear it only on balls, then leather is the absolute favorite among all the materials for the upper layer.

This is a beautifully stitched quilted protection created in our day, paying homage to its medieval ancestor.

For your convenience, we provide a choice of two ways of tailoring this magnificent medieval gambeson:

• Machine manufacturing, which is means using sewing machine by our tailors, when they will make padded armor by your parameters.
• Hand sewing – custom one, when gambeson will be completely sewn by hands of our tailors, stich-by-stich. This historical one type of manufacture offered for additional costs.

The special advantage of this modern gambeson is that it is suitable not only for historical events (like Medieval festivals and SCA, HEMA, Reenactment events), but for LARP events and Stage performances too.

Base price version, which you can see at photo includes following options:

• 2 layers of padding (natural sheet wadding 50% cotton, 50% wool);
• Natural leather (brown) for outer shell;
• Natural (uncolored) cotton for inner shell;
• Half-length sleeves;
• Brown leather straps at the sides for fastening;
• Straight bottom edge;

However, if you are looking for something special, additional options will help you create personalized model of padded gambeson armor. All leather colors that we have are available for order. Even if you choose half-colored or quarter-colored padded defense, please inform us by e-mail, what colors you prefer and its exact disposition, and we sew that gambeson for you.

Quantity of padding layer depends on the main armour. If you plan to wear aketon under the chain mail, so 5-6 layers will be fine. If there will be usual plate armour or brigandine, so 2-3 layers of natural wadding for this quilted gambeson is enough.

Moreover, we offer great choice of fastenings and festoons for decoration of your leather gambeson jacket.

Do not forget, if you plan to use plate arms or spaulders over your gambeson, order leather fastenings for them.

There are two layers of padding in sleeves by default. If you want to change it, please contact us [email protected]. Option “Laced sleeves” allows you transforming this padded armor into sleeveless gambison.
