When you're not just an ordinary fighter on the oars of a drakkar but a man of significance and wealth – you should wear clothing of the appropriate status. Like Birka quilted Viking caftan with bands.
This rich caftan is made of linen with 2 layers of padding and diamond-shaped quilted with contrasting thread. The collar, cuffs, and hem are decorated with wide golden brocade stripes. On the chest, caftan is decorated with five wide bands, each band fastens on the cast buttons.
Length of the caftan is just below mid-thigh – for comfort and mobility in battle. The simple but comfortable cut does not restrict movement while a stand-up collar additionally protects the neck. The caftan sleeves are stitched in and this is an unchangeable option. But trust us – this cut is so comfortable you wouldn't want anything else.
This is an average universal version of quilted Viking caftan based on archaeological findings at Birka, Valsgarde, and Gnezdovo. It would suit a dignified middle-class man and above, who lived in the 10th-12th centuries in the Scandinavian lands, the west of Kiev Rus, Byzantium, or Baltic kingdoms.
