George Clifford Fingered Gauntlets, 16 century

At the beginning of the 16th century, when the concept of Maximilian armor with its high protection appeared, armor gloves were practically replaced by armor gauntlets. However, in the second quarter of the same XVI century, with the widespread use of wheeled pistols, invented by Leonardo da Vinci at the end of the XV century, armor gauntlets became popular again, this time successfully replacing armor gloves. 

Fingered gauntlets were a type of hand armor that offered protection to the fingers and knuckles, while allowing the wearer to have a greater range of motion and dexterity compared to other types of gauntlets. The George Clifford Fingered Gauntlets were particularly well-known for their intricate design and attention to detail.

Made of steel, these gauntlets featured a series of overlapping plates that were secured together with leather straps and buckles. The fingers were protected by individual plates that were hinged together, allowing for greater flexibility and movement. The gauntlets also featured a flared cuff that extended up the forearm, providing additional protection to this vulnerable area.
