The first mentions of mountain pattern armour appear as early as the Tang dynasty, but we can see it in reality at paintings and statues of the Song and Ming periods. As the other lamellar armors this one made from a multitude of small pieces of iron or steel – lamellae or lamellar scales, riveted to a cloth or leather backing.

And the armor name comes from lamellar scales shape, looks like Chinese character for the word "mountain". However, there were not only mountain-shaped lamellar scales, but also beautiful star-shaped Chinese lamellar armor, which image we recreated for your pleasure.

Lamellaes and big plate pieces combination of lamellar armour reliably protect torso, shoulders, thighs, arms and legs while armor remaining comfortable and flexible enough to allow movement.

To ease the lamellar armor, we chose leather not only for the base, but also for lamellar scales and big plate pieces.

As a base under the delightful lamellae-stars, we used a smooth, non-shiny natural skin "crazy horse" with a thickness of 1.4-1.6 mm. This is a high-quality cattle leather with increased strength, coated with refractory wax as a finishing treatment. This treatment makes the skin not only beautiful, but also exceptionally strong, soft and supple.

For lamellar scales and big plates, we chose the strongest belt leather 3-4 mm thick. Gorgeous and smooth with a barely noticeable matte sheen, it looks cooler than steel and protects almost as well.

So, "crazy horse" base, belt leather lamellar scales and big plates, handful of steel rivets, few good leather straps, lot of skinner's work and we got the splendid battle ready leather armor - put on and fight.
